somewhere between 40 and death

Today I am 40, four oh, forty.

It feels nothing like I thought it would.

I have this memory from around 8 years old, when my mother turned 40. My father threw a party for her where all of her friends brought gag gifts (by the way I HATE gag gifts) like adult diapers and denture cleaner. Then my father took her to spend the night at a local nursing home. The following day he took her on some wonderful trip, but I have no working memory of where they went.

I have been thinking back on my decade marking birthdays. I think that the thing that 10, 20 and 30 all have in common was that the evenings all ended with me in tears. Hopefully that will not be the case tonight. My life is fuller today than it has ever been and I am so pleased to be able to spend the night surrounded by people I love.

I do want to send some birthday wishes out to my friend Melissa who was lucky enough to be born on my birthday. She turns 37 today, an insignificant birthday compared with mine, but I know it will make her happy to be mentioned. Happy Birthday my friend.

My final firmfit weigh in this morning, I have passed the 30 pounds lost mark, another great gift.

Final WIll & Grace last night. The best sight gag was Jacks tan and white teeth in the Grace dream sequence(God, I do love a dream sequence).

I hope you all have as wonderful a day as I will.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM!! Enjoy your gifts of sobriety, recovery, friends, losing 30 pounds, and that thing with the batteries in it that I'm sure you're looking at right now.
