My vacation begins at 5 pm today, and it can't come sooner. Tamara Petsonn says, " The day before and after vacation are super days for sick days!", I think I feel a low grade fever coming on.

I have absolutely nothing prepared for my trip. I have to dig out summer clothes and wash them, see if I need to buy anything, pack, straighten up the house( I have a friend staying to care for the kitties while I am gone) and of course my weekend is already filled with activities. Something is going to have to be cut.

Last night the 80's made for tv movie "The Day After" was on FX. I was recently having a conversation about this movie with a group of friends, most of whom had never heard of it. Whenever I hear of Lawerence, Kansas I think of this movie. What I had forgotten was that a boyhood crush, Steve Guttenberg, had a large part in the movie.(Insert tastless joke about Steve's large part being in other things here, I don't have the energy). It is about a nuclear attack on the United States. I remember being very disturbed by this movie when I was a kid, I was still disturbed but more by the low quality of the production then then content.

I have not decided about blogging while on vacation, so check back next week.

Ha! I know several people from Kansas... and one specifically from Lawrence so that is what I think of now... that and the Jayhawks! or is that K-State? I never remember. Anyway, have fun on vacation...

I hope that you have a wonderful vacation. I will definitely miss reading your blog daily since I have done it for so long. It is weird in this day and age that we are able to read into each others lives and feel as though we know each other really well when in reality we live miles apart. Thank you for sharing your life with us, I for one am better for reading your blog - I think I should start attending AA meetings myself - but that is for another day. Have fun, be safe, and forget all of your worries.

Yes, that movie made me freaked when I saw it.

On the other hand, there is a crotch shot of Steve (shot from underneath) in the movie "Cocoon" that makes me say "Mon Dieu!"

I remember being very affected by that movie --especially since my Dad had been in NORAD during the Cuban Missile Crisis. What I remember most of that is how tense and eerily quiet we were. In kindergarten, we actually got to visit one of those underground bunkers that you see in James Bond or Austin Powers movies, and we thought nothing of it.
I had the opportunity to meet Steve Guttenberg at a Hollywood party in my early sobriety. This was at a period when he had actually 'retired' as an actor and was painting. What a surprise to find out that he was on a real spiritual path! It was a genuine treat to talk with him --he was very down to earth and real in a town not known for that, especially since he's a 'normy.' (I didn't tell him that I, too, had an adolescent crush on him.) Hope you had a good vacation!
