CHICAGO - Author James Frey confessed to Oprah Winfrey Thursday that he made
up details about every character in his memoir "A Million Little Pieces,"
and the talk show host apologized to her viewers, saying she felt "duped."

"I have been really embarrassed by this," said Winfrey, whose praise for
Frey's book in September helped make it the top-selling book on nonfiction
lists in the United States last year.

"I really feel duped," she told Frey on her television show. She said he had
betrayed millions of viewers.

Should be an interesting hour .......

I hope he stays clean during this and just perhaps takes the opprotunity to work on all areas of his sobriety.

I do have to say that I love that he said he was in jail 87 days and it was actually 2.

2 days/ 87 days... well that is just splitting hairs now isn't it.

2 days/87 days is not splitting hairs to the American Red Cross...

or how long is it that say you can be incarcerated before you have been gang raped in jail according to them? I can never remember if it is 2 or 3 days in the clink?

I watched the entire show today.
In hindsight, this whole ordeal was somewhat predictable. He admitted in the book and on TV last year, that he had never worked any steps and did not intend to do so.
So give the guy a break. He's never been in recovery (as we know it) nor does he know anything about honesty or integrity.

i rushed home for the great oprah/ frey throw down and then fell asleep after the first ten minutes or so. i feel for her, she was duped. i fell for him, he's a liar. as for the details about the characters, give me a break, everyone changes details to protect the subjects. i hope he gets it together and comes out swinging with the all time best selling novel; i like the guy and hope this does not tarnish his name too badly. while most people are familiar with the story, no one seems to know his name, hopefully that will save him, he's a wonderful writer. is anyone else sick to death of self-righteous america? jesus christ, lets pull ourselves down off our crosses...

Hmmmm ... Harpo changed her mind about the whole shindig huh? Oh well - I guess the one positive thing that came from this is that at least folks were talking about recovery and what it means to "really" be in recovery. What I think is kind of funny though is that everyone expected one thing from Fey and got something else - kind of like real life, huh? Great Expectations = Great Disappointments = Great Resentments.

What REAL alcoholic hasn't embellished their pitch a little bit? In the excerpt of the Oprah/Frey interview on the news it looked as though he was not only eating crow, but he had truly, truly realized that he had pissed off the most powerful person in media. His chair probably looked like the one from the interrogation scene in "LA Confidential" when all was said and done.
Now that the dust has settled a bit over the entire mess, I might just read it--I understand it makes really for good fiction.
One thing though... I'm not 100% sure that Frey is really straight... not that I care. He can't hold a candle to the photos you dig up ...
