part of the family

I think it is funny that there are a bunch of people I have never met who all know that I recently got my haircut, went to see my parents, am obsessed with Brokeback Mountain, etc. I ran into a friend recently who I have not seen in a couple of months and he started talking about my haircut, how he liked it and how he had pictured it differently. I was surprised to hear that he had even heard about my haircut, I mean I know my life makes for riveting conversation, but really...my hair?

Well, come to find out he reads my blog, everyday. Although I imagine he comes more for the eye candy then the writing.

I was sitting at my favorite coffee shop, Vera's, last night to write some letters and enjoy the early autumn night. I still write letters from time to time, I know how excited I am when I get mail. Anyhow, a new friend came over and joined me. During this past week he marked 6 months clean and sober, and found out that he is HIV positive. It was something to sit with him and listen to how much clarity he has about living life on lifes terms. I know that in my using I did things on a daily basis that put me at risk for HIV, and that it has absolutely nothing to with me that I find myself negative today. I am awed by the grace with which my friend has been moving through this difficult time, always keeping sobriety his priority. It is by being sober that we are able to handle life.

Add my friend to your prayers today, if you are the praying sort.
