I am fighting a cold. What is up with summer colds?

I am going to see a movie this weekend, any suggestions?

A friend of mine had his blog called narcissistic, aren't blogs by nature narcissistic? I mean really, who cares that I have a cold?, or that I consider Ryan(pictured above) to be hot?, or that I have struggles or joys in life? What I love about blogging is the voyeuristic nature of it. I give strangers, who sometimes become friends, glimpses into my life and in return get to take peeks in theirs. I think it is like leaving your curtains open just a little, and every once in a while you get a peek of someone getting out of the shower.

Good point.
When I first started my blog (before it was ever referred to as a "blog"-- they were "online journals" until blogger became so huge), it was pretty much just about my life and what I did that day. Its was a lot more for myself, but if anyone else wanted to read it, there it was.

As I continued blogging, and tried to become more of a member of the blogger community, I decided to include more posts on ideas and concepts-- though without doing away with the personal posts that put those ideas into context. Commenting and linking allows an exchange of ideas, not just voyeurism of the reader.

So in a sense, blogs are narcissistic. But in another sense, its like you're putting out your life, thoughts, and ideas out there just to be a part of this larger intellectual exchange.

How else would I have gotten that great Paul Lynde story from Jim if I hadn't posted about Paul Lynde on my blog. And I never would have posted abotu Paul Lynde if I hadn't read about him on yet another blog...

Lindsey - did the BF leave you for a dog?

Posted by: SparklesMpls at June 10, 2005 12:47 PM

Basically, he wanted me to sit in the back seat of his car so the stupid dog could sit in front...wtf?

Is it weird to be insanely jelous of your bf's dog?

Posted by: Lindsay at June 10, 2005 01:27 PM

It's not weird to be jealous of your bf's dog ... that is, not unless your bf is fucking his dog.

I really like that part about the curtains. I just usually think of blogging as an outlet for whatever's going on with my life, at any given moment. I really consider it therapy.

Lindsay - your BF is a weirdo. Is he too weird for you? Only you know the answer.

I use my blog to write funny and entertaining (I hope) things that will amuse my readers and bring me more readers. I think that makes me a blog whore. (Everything has a personal aspect to it, however.)

did i miss something here?

I agree, it's a peek into someone else's life. There are millions of people in the world and they are going about thier lives, dealing with their problems, enjoying their successes, just living. Blogging allows us a glimpse into their lives.

Knowing what they think, knowing how they feel about something, can make a difference in our own lives, gives us a different perspective that we may have considered, but not really accepted because it may have been a little too abstract. But when you read a blog about someone dealing with the death of their partner, friend, parent from drugs, cancer, or AIDS, it's not abstract. It's real. And it can make an impact on you. Hopefully in a good way.

Can't remember how I found your blog, but I like it. Keep up the photos. ;) Happy Pride from DC.
