Jim, It's Your Birthday
Wonderful time last night with my friends. Richard opened his beautiful house, Bahaa made the lasagna that I love, it really was a wonderful evening.
I used to make a very big deal out of my birthday, always taking the day off work( part of me still believes that my birthday should hold national holiday status). When I first got sober, there was a guy named Chris, who at that time had been sober for a couple of years(sadly he is not sober today, from what I hear he is in Dallas, good thoughts go out to him). Anyway Chris was a nurse at the treatment center I went to, and while I was in primary care he celbrated his birthday. After blowing out his cake he talked about how in sobriety he could not afford to make a huge deal out of days like birthdays. They were "just another day". I try to keep that in mind, keep my expectations to a minimum(that way they are always exceeded).
My greatest gift today is my sobriety. Although Lindsay just gave me a cake, that runs a close second!
