It's a small world

I had a surprise in the mail yesterday that really illustrated how small the internet has made the world and just how easy it is to locate people.
In my mailbox I found 3 manila envelopes sent from Iowa. I buy too much crap off of ebay, so I was trying to think what this could be. My birthday is 2 weeks from today(hint, hint), so I thought it may be an early birthday gift, but I do not know anyone in Iowa.
The envelopes contained 11 dvds, and a letter. It seems that Alan from Iowa City is a regular reader of both one gay at a time and my friend Dan's blog. Alan had made compliation dvds of coronation street, a very cool bbc soap, and various gay themed videos and knowing that Dan and I both greatly enjoy all things gay themed sent them off.
Now I love getting gifts and am looking forward to watching these, but there was something a little unsettling about the fact that from my blogging someone was able to find me in Minneapolis, especially since my last name does not appear on my blog. It is a reminder of just how small the world has become.
Thank you again Alan for the DVD's, Dan and I will sit down this weekend and watch them. I think I may get a PO Box and post that, I mean I want all of you to feel free to send me gifts, small or large, cash donations pretty much anything, excepting body parts and fluids.

Jim, since your email address is (deleted), I suppose that is how someone might know your last name. Keep up the great work on the web page.

I realized that and felt foolish, so I am changing my e-mail...
onegayatatime@yahoo.com
I am bummed that I did not figure that out sooner, I guess I would not be a good private investigator.
Although I always wanted to be Amanda King.

Hi Jim - I'm glad you got the DVDs I sent, and I hope you enjoy them. I feel bad about creating concern for your privacy by finding your home address online (yes, your email had your full name and Address Find had the address). It is a good idea to change your email address I suppose, because anyone who sticks his head up above the crowd has to be cautious. I have written a lot of letters to the editor in support of gay issues and found that an unlisted phone number and hard-to-find address is a must. For example, ten years ago or so the Des Moines Register used to publish home addresses of letter-writers and I would get all kinds of mail after one of my letters would appear. More good mail than bad, actually (a lot of closeted people would write to say "thanks for saying what I can't; I'm afraid to use my name publicly; etc.". But I would get some hate notes from nut cases - always anonymous, the cowards - bordering on threats.
I hope you like the Coronation Street series. I can't tell you how many friends find it absolutely addictive. It's very well written and acted, and the show is a huge hit in England.
If anyone else is reading this, they can check out these web pages to get an idea of what the story is like:

and this page has video clips:

Check out in particular the "Todd and Karl: A Wonderful World" video at the bottom of that page.
Keep up the great work with the blog.

Corrie is, of course, hilarious.
And you daily dose of eyecandy is ever-so-slightly fantastic... mmmmmmm...

Yep... I struggle with this privacy issue all the time. I have not posted a picture of myself yet (concerned over security reasons) but I may post *one* (because I am a whore for compliments.) Frankly, I would adore getting presents or donations but my blog hasn't inspired anyone to that extent yet!

Like any soap, Corrie follows multiple story lines. Some of them are far-out and hilarious, others are more touching. The gay-themed story line involving Todd that I edited together on the five DVDs (tossing out all the other story lines) are of the more touching variety.
