Lindsay makes ammends
I am really proud of my co-worker Lindsay. Growing up can suck, and I am hardly one to ever make comments about the way anyone handles their finances. However I overheard Lindsay cancelling a credit card today and have to applaud her honesty with the person on the phone.
Target Visa Representative: " And why are you choosing to cancel your card today?"
Lindsay: "Because I suck at having a credit card"
My hat is off to you Lindsay, keep up the great work.
If anyone has entertaining paying your bills stories to pass along to Lindsay post them, she needs all the support she can get.

Beautiful Morning

This is Rick, he is hot.
So spring has come to Minnesota. On my way into work this morning I saw the barges coming up the Mississippi to dock in St. Paul, a sure sign that spring is here.
The sign I enjoy the most though is the revelation of skin on all the guys walking around Lake Calhoun. In this land, where -3 degrees is a "nice" day in Feb., once the temperature goes above 40 clothes come off. I am wearing shorts today and plan on maintaining that fashion choice until autumn winds blow again.
Thanks to selective short term memory within weeks everyone here will have forgotten how miserable the weather is in winter and will be singing the pleasure living in the land of 10,000 lakes.

Feeding Tubes are the New Toile
It seems that everyone who is everyone is getting a feeding tube these days. I mean even the Pope is getting one. I hear that In Style magazine is doing an article about hip placement of the tubes and designer inspired coverings for the accesories,
Rumor has it that Paris Hilton even got one for Tinkerbell, isn't that adorable!

Gay Cats

Henry and Frank are so gay. They keep trying to draw me into their sick relationship. licking my face, rubbing against my ankles, coming into the bathroom whenever I am in there. This is exactly what the religious right was talking about when they said gay marriage would lead to people wanting to marry their pets. At least my mother would be glad that I was involved with some pussy.

Easter Sunday

Quite a fancy table, the decorations included marshmellow peeps and a variety of chocolate eggs...mmmmm tasty.
Sundays dinner could not have been nicer, gathering with friends at Richard's beautiful homw, a table overflowing with food. We were only a camera team away from being a photoshoot.
The entire weekend was actually nice. Went to Dave's for dinner and a movie on Saturday, Great steak and Being Julia, if you have not seen this yet click on Netflix and rent it now! The theme of the evening was a pajama party and I brought my friend Mike along. It was good times.

early indoctrination
I pledge Allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one nation under God, indivisible,
with Liberty and Justice for all.
Amen
I can remember standing up in first grade, my little hand pressed firmly to my chest reciting the pledge of allegience, my desk in Mrs. Stark's class alphabetically between Ellen Durdin and Mike Holtham. Do elementary children still start the day by reciting the Pledge?
And does anyone belive it?
I am far away from first grade now, and from my faith that there is justice for all in the US. I do love my country, and I think that we have it pretty good here. But justice for ALL, come on.
Where is there justice for same sex couples wanting to have their relationships legally recognized?
Where is there justice for that poor woman in Florida, and her husband trying to give the woman he loves dignity?
Where is there justice in a health care system that does not provide for people in need?
well, now that I have my little political rant off my chest, it is time to get to work. Have a good day.

Bishop Apologizes for Denying Rites to Gay Bar Owner
Tuesday, March 22, 2005
SAN DIEGO — A Roman Catholic bishop apologized for denying funeral rites to a man who owned a bar and a dance club popular with gays and said he will preside over a Mass in the man's honor, according to the man's family.
Bishop Robert Brom (search), who canceled John McCusker's funeral rites after citing a clash between the man's "business activities" and the church's moral teachings, met with the man's family on Monday and "regretfully acknowledged his hasty decision," said McCusker's mother, Christine.
"I apologize to the family for the anguish this has caused them," Brom said in a written , as he is a great advocate of reconciliation and forgiveness."
Some conservatives were disappointed with Brom's reversal.
James Hartline, who said he alerted the bishop to McCusker's gay business interests, told The San Diego Union-Tribune that he had spoken with Brom several times about the case and the bishop "emphatically stated to me he would not budge one bit."
Dioceses have sometimes denied funeral Masses for mobsters, including John Gotti. But in other cases across the country, some priests accused of sexual abuse have been granted Catholic funeral services, including John Geoghan, the Boston Archdiocese former priest whose sex-abuse case helped spark the nationwide church scandal

This is sad.
Diocese of San Diego denies Catholic funeral rites to bar owner
Fri Mar 18,12:05 AM ET Local - San Diego Daily Transcript
A member of the Greater San Diego Business Association and owner of two gay bars has been denied a funeral at the University of San Diego and in any Catholic church or chapel in the Diocese of San Diego.
John McCusker, 31, owner of Club Montage and ReBar, two local gay nightspots, died early March 13. McCusker suffered an apparent heart attack while at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort on vacation. The bars are closed indefinitely according to a notice on the Club Montage Web site.
The Mono County Coroner's Office said that an official cause of death is pending the outcome of a toxicology report.
A 1996 graduate of USD, McCusker's family wanted to have the funeral service there, but was denied after church officials received information about him and his businesses.
A 1996 graduate of USD, McCusker's family wanted to have the funeral service there, but was denied after church officials received information about him and his businesses.
Joyce Marieb, executive director of the Greater San Diego Business Association, called McCusker, "a great leader and the kind of guy that people love to see because he gives back and is very generous to the community."
"We all know what this is about," Marieb said, who knew McCusker for the past five and a half years. "They [the Catholic Church] claim they've buried other gay people and that it's because of the bar aspect."
A statement released earlier Thursday by Rodrigo Valdivia, chancellor for the Diocese of San Diego, explains the church's actions.
"The facts regarding the business activity of John McCusker were not known by church officials when arrangements were requested for his funeral. When these facts became known the bishop of San Diego concluded that to avoid public scandal Mr. McCusker can't be granted a funeral in a Catholic church or chapel in the Diocese of San Diego."
So what about McCusker would cause a public scandal?
"His business is adult entertainment, which is inconsistent with Catholic teaching" Valdivia said. "People would be scandalized that the church granted a funeral to a person who had this type of business activity."
But, according to Valdivia, the Catholic Church does not consider all bars and clubs "adult entertainment."
"There's a lot of different things that can play into what would make a business activity something that was notoriously against Catholic teaching or not. It would not necessarily be if (the club) was gay or not."
When asked what about McCusker or his business goes against Catholic teaching, Valdivia said he couldn't say, for legal reasons.
"It has nothing to do with his personal life," Valdivia said.
Marieb said she is surprised that the Church doesn't show respect to a man that did so much for the community.
"Everybody loved him, it's a large loss for our community" Marieb said. "You'll see the outpouring of the community at the services."
Marieb also said there will be a community meeting on Monday at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of San Diego to discuss this issue.
McCusker's memorial service is now planned for 11 a.m., March 18 at St. Paul's Cathedral, an Episcopal church.

This reminds me
I need to buy camo cargo shorts

I need to rant about somethings in the news lately:
1. that poor woman in florida who will finally be allowed some peace. It seems that republicans do not only not acknowledge relationships between same sex couple, but between certain "tradional" marriages.
2. the school shootings in Northern Minnesota. Good thing it is so easy to get guns in Minnesota, thanks Gov.
3. The Mighty Axe ride at the Mall of America got stuck with all the riders dangling upside down for over an hour. Fortunately the were all given their 4 dollar fee back, plus a 25 dollar gift card and a completely useless coupon book. Hopefully they were given the phone numbers for some good attorneys too.
more to come later...

Had a bit of a scare on friday when my whole blog disappeared. It seems that Dan's server was wiped out by some hacker in France. Just another reason to hate the French!
I will ament that statement if it turns out the Wade here is French, he can do whatever he wants to my hard drive, wink wink

My friend Karen is in town visiting. I have not seen her in about 7 years, although we talk on the phone so regularly that it does not seem that way. It was comfortable, like slipping on a pair of comfortable jeans, or sitting in a batik covered wing chair. I have known Karen for 22 years, not too long ago I had a date with a guy who was 21. I don't think I should have friendships older than people I date.
Guess it is time to dump some friends.

Sadie, Sadie
I am having a new refrigerator delivered today. Let me tell you when you pull a fridge out of the kitchen you discover some VERY disturbing things. Now I will readily admit that I do not clean my house with the passion of a Miss Joan Crawford, but I do not live in filth either. Or so I thought, until I pulled out the fridge and was shocked at the layer of soil which was left behind. Thankfully there was nothing living, or identifiably dead under there, but it was still disturbing
Now all I can think about is what is under the stove!
Busy week at work, time is just flying by. Karen comes for her visit on Saturday and my prep list is barely touched. There are not enough hours in the day, I really need a staff to help me out with all the simple chores, like laundry, shopping, cleaning, sleeping. Hell I will just buy lots of flowers and dim the lights, give her the ol razzle dazzle in the words of Kander and Ebb.
As I was preparing to move out my refrigerator, I tossed out a couple of years of condiments, most of which I have no memory of buying(what did I use half a bottle of citrus lime marinade on?), so what surprises are there in your kitchen?

hey
I wonder what Michelle Bachman thinks of the California ruling about gay marriages?
My third step talk went alright. I really didn't prepare alot, just went up and spoke from the heart. It wasn't terribly well organized, but it was honest. Tonight I am speaking on the first step at my home group in Minneapolis, then I think I will shut up and listen for a while.
My friend Karen is coming into town this weekend. I love this woman and have not seen her in a few years, so I am looking forward to a great time. We talk on the phone every few days, and laugh like crazy. She is one of a handful of people in my life who knew me when I was using, so I always feel great getting together with old friends who can see how good my life is today. She was also part of my life with Bobby, there aren't too many of those people in my life today. Someday I will have to write about Bobby, but not today.

Freaky Friday
Lindsay Lane, no relation to Lois, and I have decided that we need to exercise more. So in order to get more cardio in everyday we are moving the oreo cookies and jelly beans off our desks and placing them on an unused desk on the other side of the room! We are like little Jane Fonda's up and down back and forth, it really is like a step class at work. Why didn't we think of this before?

O R E O
How did OREO start?
OREO was first manufactured in Feburary, 1912 and was originally sold in bulk tin cans for 30 US cents a pound. These tin cans were the first in their day to have glass tops to allow consumers to view the cookies.
The original OREO was an embossed cookie with a thin wreath-like design on the outer edge, with the OREO name appearing on the plain surface of the cookie.
The design that we see today was developed in 1916 and modified in 1952 to include the Nabisco Cookie Company's colophon.
I am entirely grateful to the Nabisco Company for creating the Oreo Cookie, and I think I am probably going to throw up, as I have eaten too many.

Monday morning.
I did a bunch of work on my house this weekend. My friend Karen is coming to visit and I had to make my spare bedroom more of a guest room. Dan came over adn helped me paint, it really needs another coat of paint, but I will keep the dimmers on low and no one will be the wiser.
Then I watched about half of the first season of Alias. This is one of those shows that I did not start watching when it first came out. So I am now playing catchup, just as I did with Sex in the City, Oz and the Sopranos. It was a nice afternoon, napping in bed with Frank and Henry watching tv.

Third Step
God, I offer myself to Thee--
to build with me and to do with
me as Thou wilt.
Relieve me of the bondage of self,
that I may better do Thy will.
Take away my difficulties,
that victory over them may bear witness to
those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love,
and Thy Way of life.
May I do Thy will always.
I have to speak about the third step today at a meeting, share my experience, strength and hope.
I have never spoken at this meeting before, it is a very large on and I am somewhat nervous about standing in front of this group. A friend suggested that instead of focussing on the third step I simply point out people I know at the meeting and present their inventories.
It is tempting.

Now I am just reporting facts here, but the "prize" of a dvd from Amazon.com has yet to be delivered. Looks like The Countess Maritza will be sitting in front of her Sony 28 inch color television just wondering how Valley of the Dolls would look.
Stop by Shifty McCoy's and let her know what you think of empty promises and the broken hearts that they leave behind.
Tonight the lights of the House of Maritza are dimmed, all occupants draped in black bombazine awaiting resolution.

As people who read my
As people who read my blog know I am a recoverying drug addict and alcoholic, who has found my recovery in the rooms af AA and NA, 12 step organizations. I also work for an intervention company that helps families find solutions to their families crisis. Everyone who works at this company is living in sobriety, and found their way into sobriety through the 12 steps. Because of our personal experiences when sasked for treatment referrals we chose 12 step based programs, recommending the way in which we have found, and have seen many other find long term sobriety and achieve quality in their lives.
This is not to say that the ONLY way to achieve long term sobriety is through the 12 steps, but in my own journey through sobriety and the multiple attempts that I took to be clean and sober I found the greatest sucess and the highest quality of life through the fellowship of AA.
I recieved a comment on a post about the company at I am at-
I searched and your organization offers nothing but 12-step based treatment. As someone who was addicted to Alcohol for many years, I can tell you 12-step ideas aren't for everybody and in my case wasted time and made no sense to me.
I know there's no money in simply advising someone they had better quit for good and giving other options like AVRT (see www.rational.org ). If you have a problem with RR being a for profit company, all that means is the owner pays taxes. He could just as easily be non-profit, then give himself huge bonuses and make even more money.
Think about it- the recovery industry is gigantic and lucrative. You
know the cost of the traditional 28 day deal. Mr. Trimpey runs a few
classes on AVRT training and has about a 60-70% securely abstinent results.
Isn't it worth investigation?
Now I firmly believe that there are many ways to get and stay sober. The 12 steps are not the only way to achieve sobriety, however I am secure in telling someone that if they follow the recommendations of a 12 step program, their life will get better. It takes a lot of work to be sober, not just dry, and the person who left that comment may very well be right that 12 step recovery is not for him and was a waste of his time-it takes alot of work to be sober.
As for rational recovery, I have been highly leary of a program which which considers it's members to be sucessful when they continue to use. From the RR web site:
Why would we call that a failure, or the failure of a program, or even an individual's failure, if he or she decides to drink or use drugs once again?
I am sure that there are people who have improved their lives through RR, other than it's founders, but I don't think that a program which pushes people to be separate from others, mocks spirituality or allows that drug use and sobriety can exist at the same time is for me. Again, from the RR website:
We are highly suspicious of praise for AA by people whose identities and personal lives are defined years later by a period of . We do not care about their spiritual visions and gratitude toward AA/NA, because in spite of all their piety and enthusiasm, they are still in the jaws of addiction, staying sober one-day-at-a-time, engaged in occult spirituality, languishing in the social ghetto of recovery groups.
I welcome that suspicion, anyone who knew me while I was using will acknowledge that my identity and personal life was defined by drugs and alcohol. I am proud today to have my life defined in honest and spiritual terms. I am enthusiastic about my recovery, but I think that gratitude is being misinterpreted as piety. Today I am free of the jaws of addiction, by recognizing that I have to work to keep myself sober. Staying sober one day at a time, is a huge relief to me, I don't have to worry about using tomorrow, just remember to not use today. "Occult Spirituality", well I am Catholic so I guess I have no argument there. And as for languishing in the social ghetto of recovery groups, my life is flourishing today, and I would take a day of recovery groups over an afternoon on a bar or a night in a crack house anyday, or at least today.
I don't get up on my sobriety high horse very often, but there it is. Just for today I am a grateful recovering alcoholic and drug addict, and thanks to the 12 steps of recovery and the fellowship of AA and NA my life is full. I wish nothing but the same feeling of being joyous, happy and free to everyone who reads this.
Thanks for your time.

forgot my cell phone
There are few things I look forward to more than coming into work a little early, to get a fresh start on the day, and having my in box filled with emergency calls from clients!
I also love those days when, halfway to the office, I realize that I have left my cell phone at home.
At least I remembered my wallet, so I can go to lunch.
Speaking of lunch,
a plate full of Jonathan would be delicious, you know what I am saying!
There are alot of things going on in the news that I wish I had the time and energy to really comment on. Let's just say that I have strong feelings about the following:
* The Anti-Gay Marriage rantings of possibly PFLAG
eligable Michelle Bachman
* A Wisconson firemans call for the right to shoot free
roaming kitties
* Micheal Jackson
* Geaorge W and the republican war machine
ok, well at least that is off my chest. Have a pleasant day all

Bitter, Cold
Why oh why did anyone decide that this dreadful climate was the place to build a city? I am over the bone-chilling cold, the skin drying air and the staleness of uncirculated air. This past weekend
was a cruel taste of what warmth has to offer.
I am walking through a bit of late winter depression, no fun, and made a little harder by the addition of the nonsense with my mother, unfortunate dating experiences and a couple of poorly thoughtout financial decisions. All this will pass, I am secure in that thought, I know that those damn Promises are true, and things are really great in my life, they just aren't always the way I want them to be.

My mom had to be taken to the emergency room on Saturday. Her blood pressure had fallen dangerously low and my Dad had an ambulance come and get her. Mom has MS and the disease really has a hold on her, it is not a pleasant thing.
It is frustrating to be half a continent away when these things are happening. Not seeing my folks is the main thing I miss about Buffalo, I don't miss it enough to ever consider moving back there, but I do miss them.

mid week ramblings
I have a good friend coming into town to stay for a few days at my house, and this has forced me to finally tackle the spare bedroom fiasco. Man, I have alot of shit! I am trying to make it look like a welcoming space by choosing from the things I don't really want anywhere else in my house. Wish me luck.
Half watched the series finale of NYPD Blue last night. I rarely watched the show, turning it on only occasionally for a flash of Rick Schroeder's or Zach from Saved by the Bell's ass, other than that my police drama focus is all Law & Order.
I have been reading the blogs of a bunch of guys in recovery lately. There are a lot of people out there documenting their struggles with sobriety. I think I will starting featuring links to the ones I find really inspirational, but right now that is just a thought. I am also thinking about changing the look of my blog, perhaps joining the trend of movable type. This will involve a long tutorial from Dan, so it make take a while, that girl is busy with work(and by work I mean the new bf).
